Stained Glass Windows

Window descriptions

  1. Mary’s Marriage to Joseph. A tender scene witnessed by the Levite (priest) and two other witnesses.
  2. The Annunciation. The Angel Gabriel comes to tell Mary that she is to be the Mother of God.
  3. The Visitation. Mary visits her cousin Elizabeth.
  4. The Nativity of the Lord.
    The Christmas window
  5. The Adoration of the Magi. The Three Wise Men are accompanied by the camel driver.
  6. The Presentation in the Temple. According to the Law of Moses, ”every firstborn male must be consecrated to the Lord.” The kneeling figure is Simeon; the woman in the foreground is Anna.
  7. The Flight into Egypt
  8. The Holy Family at Nazareth.
  9. Jesus in the Temple at age twelve, discussing the scriptures as onlookers seem to be awestruck by his understanding.
  10. The Death of Joseph, bringing the end to windows depicting the private life of Jesus and his Mother.
  11. The Wedding Feast at Cana. The first miracle of Jesus where he turned water into wine.
  12. Mary meeting Jesus on the Way to Calvary. Angels above carry towels with the image of Jesus’ face and next to it the sign placed on the cross with the letters INRI which represent the Latin for Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.
  13. The Crucifixion of Jesus. Mary is comforted by one of the women present
  14. Mary receives the body of her son as he is removed from the cross.
  15. The Deposition of Jesus, the removal of Jesus from the cross.
  16. The Burial of Jesus
  17. Mary being cared for by disciples and friends
  18. The Apparition of the Risen Lord to his Mother.
  19. Mary and the Disciples waiting for Pentecost and the descent of the Holy Spirit.
  20. The Dormition of Mary. She is described as falling asleep; the death of Mary.

  1. Immaculate Conception.
    This window illustrates the dogma of Mary’s creation without original sin.
  2. Enthroned Madonna and Child.
    Window is surrounded by small rondels bearing the image of a cross.
  3. The Coronation of Mary, Queen of Heaven.
    Surrounding Mary are three choirs of angels closest to God—
    Seraphim, Cherubim, and Thrones.
