Join us for this discussion with Dr. Gerald Schlabach on the call for each of us to defend and promote the dignity of the most vulnerable among us. The program will include a conversation with Antonia Alvarez, the co-founder of Asemblea de Derechos Civiles, speaking from her perspective on homelessness.
Throughout Scripture, God shows a special love for the poor. It is the poor who have their human dignity most threatened. Therefore, if we want to be followers of Jesus we must be lovers of the poor.
Each individual Christian and every community is called to be an instrument of God for the liberation and promotion of the poor, and for enabling them to be fully a part of society. This demands that we be docile and attentive to the cry of the poor and come to their aid.
Pope Francis, Evangelii Gaudium (The Joy of the Gospel), 2013
