Pope Francis has emphasized the importance of dialogue in the life of the Church. And in the spirit of speaking and listening in charity, the Archdiocese of Saint Paul and Minneapolis is hosting a series of listening sessions. Archbishop Hebda will lead the sessions to hear your input on our strengths, our challenges, and what characteristics are important in a new archbishop. Feedback gathered during these sessions will be shared with those responsible for advising Pope Francis as he makes this important choice and with the new Archbishop whenever he is named. Summaries will be published in The Catholic Spirit.

Would you like to learn more about becoming a Catholic?

Each year The Basilica welcomes a number of new Catholics into the Church at the Easter Vigil. Prior to their reception into the church, those who are interested spend several months meeting weekly on Tuesday evenings to learn and discern their call to the Catholic Church. Additionally, many sponsors from our parish will be needed to journey with the group. If you are interested in this ministry, please contact Paula. Sponsor training will be held in August. Background check and sponsor training required.

Sunday, August 16, 2015 marked one hundred years since the dedication of The Basilica, which also happened to be the Feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary into Heaven. With special permission from the Archbishop, this year, the Solemnity of the Assumption of Mary was transferred to Sunday, August 16, allowing us to once again celebrate the Assumption and our 100th Anniversary since our Solemn Dedication on the same day. Nearly 900 people joined us for after Mass hospitality, delicious ice cream, and activities for children and adults. Here are a few pictures from the event!

The Basilica of Saint Mary aspires to be a home of spiritual nourishment, a beacon of hope, and an advocate of change. It takes the participation of all our parishioners, visitors, and friends to make this aspiration a reality.

But sometimes, we physical barriers make it difficult to actively participated in an organization, helping toward that aspiration can prove difficult.

Therefore, in order to continue to invite of visitors into full participation in our liturgies and services, we are working hard to break down the most common barriers.

Starting this summer, The Basilica has increased its number of listening/hearing devices from 17 to 24.

You may ask an usher for assistance on obtaining a listening device.

In order to continue to provide this service to our community, we kindly ask that the devices are returned after each service. Devices can be given to any usher on your way out of the church.

Reardon Rectory Construction Updates

Starting on the lower level of the church, the Saint Cecilia room is nearing completion as it will be ready to paint sometime this week. The first and second floors are currently having fire protection and ductwork installed in their southeast wings and temporary protection in the southwest wings as construction continues throughout the building.

On the north side of the third floor, all framing, drywall, taping, and mudding will be competed by the end of the week. While the south side is nearing completion, the construction team is currently looking for flooring samples to match the rest of the rectory.

The fourth floor continues to be transformed from an unused attic to adequate office space and gallery for The Basilica’s extensive art collection. The walls and the ceiling will be installed throughout this week.

The Basilica’s staff is excited for all the new changes and can’t wait for everything to get back to normal. A special thanks goes out to Mortenson Construction for working so diligently and respectively over the last few months.

As a reminder, Basilica offices will be closed Saturday,  July 4. There will be Mass at 9:30am in The Basilica as well as the regular Mass of Anticipation at 5:00pm. Confessions regularly scheduled for Saturdays at 10:00am are canceled.
