Novena Day 8

Day Eight
For all candidates for elected office
St. Thomas More, patron saint of politicians, pray for us.

Through the intercession of St. Thomas More, Patron Saint of Politicians we pray for all candidates for public office.

In the name of the Father
and of the Son
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Our Father,
who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.'
For the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory are yours, now and for ever.
Amen.

Hail Mary,
full of Grace,
the Lord is with thee,
blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

A Reading from the Letter to the Ephesians (5:6-14)
Let no one deceive you with empty arguments, for because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the disobedient. So do not be associated with them. For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light, for light produces every kind of goodness and righteousness and truth. Try to learn what is pleasing to the Lord. Take no part in the fruitless works of darkness; rather expose them, for it is shameful even to mention the things done by them in secret; but everything exposed by the light becomes visible, for everything that becomes visible is light.
The Word of the Lord.

Please observe a moment of silent reflection…

Let us pray:
Ever-living God,
you created us in your image and adopted us as your sons and daughters,
we pray for those to be elected as our leaders
inspire in them honesty and transparency in word and deed,
grant them the wisdom to distinguish light form darkness, right from wrong and truth from lie,
kindle compassion and spark mercy in them so their decisions may be for the common good,
and embolden them in their  commitment to justice for all.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

And as we continue our journey toward Election Day,let us pray:
All-powerful God,
inspire us to be faithful followers of Jesus,
send down your Holy Spirit to form our conscience,
and grant us the wisdom and strength to always act according to your will.

Give us the courage to build bridges where walls have divided,
bestow on us the grace  to bind all wounds of fear and anger,
and weave us together into the people you call your own.

Bless us with leaders who speak the truth and who act with justice,
bless us with leaders who are filled with wisdom and who govern with compassion,
and bless us with leaders who are committed to the common good and the healing of our broken world.
We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

Through the intercession of St. Thomas More, Patron Saint of politicians  may we be inspired to speak and act as children of God.

Saint Thomas More, pray for us.

May the Lord bless us
protect us from all evil
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
