Octave Day 1

Day One:
For the Unity of All People, Especially All Citizens of this Country

Our Lady of Guadalupe, Patroness of the Americas and Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, Patroness of the United States, Pray for Us.

In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Our Father,
who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespasses against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory are yours, now and for ever.
Amen.

Hail Mary,
full of Grace,
the Lord I with thee,
blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

A Reading from the Letter to the Romans (12:3-5)

For by the grace given to me I tell everyone among you not to think of yourself more highly than one ought to think, but to think soberly, each according to the measure of faith that God has apportioned. For as in one body we have many parts, and all the parts do not have the same function, so we, though many, are one body and individually parts of one another.

The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Please observe a moment of silent reflection…

Let us pray for the unity of all people:

Ever-living God,
breathe a fresh air of unity into our nation
send your Holy Spirit to direct our leaders in government and industry; our scientists and academics; our teachers and spiritual leaders in ways of harmony and peace,
and guide us, all your children as we fashion a path of reconciliation and concord,
and thus witness to your mercy and love.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

And let us pray for our newly elected officials and all people in our nation:

All-powerful God,
bless our newly elected officials:
with a firm dedication to speak the truth and to act with justice,
with compassion and mercy in the way they govern,
with respect for our ailing world,
with wisdom as they navigate the turbulent international political waters
with an unwavering commitment to heal our divided nation.
And bless all people in our nation
with the grace to embrace this healing
and work fervently toward the common good.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

May the Lord bless us
protect us from all evil
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
