Octave Day 5

Day Five:
For Charity in all Our Words and Actions

St. Teresa of Calcutta, Caregiver to Those Most in Need, Pray for Us.

In the name of the Father,
and of the Son,
and of the Holy Spirit.
Amen.

Our Father,
who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread,
and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespasses against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from evil.
For the Kingdom, the Power and the Glory are yours, now and for ever.
Amen.

Hail Mary,
full of Grace,
the Lord I with thee,
blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
Pray for us sinners,
Now and at the hour of our death.
Amen.

Glory be to the Father,
and to the Son,
and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now,
and ever shall be,
world without end.
Amen.

A Reading from the Letter to the Corinthians (13: 1-6)
If I speak in human and angelic tongues* but do not have love, I am a resounding gong or a clashing cymbal. And if I have the gift of prophecy and comprehend all mysteries and all knowledge; if I have all faith so as to move mountains but do not have love, I am nothing. If I give away everything I own, and if I hand my body over so that I may boast but do not have love, I gain nothing. Love is patient, love is kind. It is not jealous, love is not pompous, it is not inflated, it is not rude, it does not seek its own interests, it is not quick-tempered, it does not brood over injury, it does not rejoice over wrongdoing but rejoices with the truth. It bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. Love never fails.
The Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God.

Please observe a moment of silent reflection…

Let us pray for charity in all our words and deeds:

Ever-living God,
you showed your love by sending your son to dwell among us.
Mold us in his image
inspire kindness in all our thoughts,
gentleness in all our words
and generosity in all our deeds.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

And let us pray for our newly elected officials and all people in our nation:

All-powerful God,
bless our newly elected officials:
with a firm dedication to speak the truth and to act with justice,
with compassion and mercy in the way they govern,
with respect for our ailing world,
with wisdom as they navigate the turbulent international political waters
with an unwavering commitment to heal our divided nation.
And bless all people in our nation
with the grace to embrace this healing
and work fervently toward the common good.

We ask this through Christ our Lord.
Amen.

May the Lord bless us
protect us from all evil
and bring us to everlasting life.
Amen.
