NO to War, YES to Peace: The Possibilities of Just Peacemaking
Christians have responded to the possibility of war in two typical ways: just war theory or pacifism. These responses, however, are often reactive in times of violent conflict, offering a "no" to war (although sometimes just war adherents may sometimes say "yes") without offering pathways to resolution. What would more proactive commitments to peace look like? How does the work for justice contribute to the work for peace? How can Christians act prior to times of violent conflict to decrease its likelihood and lessen its impact? This session will introduce participants to the background, principles, and practices of "just peacemaking."
