Background of the St. Croix Sacred Ensemble

The St. Croix Sacred Ensemble (SCSE) began its musical evolution more than 20 years ago as The Matin Singers, a church choir based out of Trinity Lutheran Church in Stillwater, Minnesota, directed by Ken Hannah.

Daniel Baumgartner was named Artistic Director of the ensemble in 2012. Dan’s extensive experience as a musician, vocalist, and director has enabled the choir to maintain its musical excellence and to craft a new future for the choir. The name St. Croix Sacred Ensemble was adopted by its members in 2012.

As a group of dedicated singers, the focus has always been on offering a varied repertoire of the highest quality choral music, from liturgical chants to world music. A cappella choir music is one of the choir’s musical specialties. Our music making is offered to lift the spirit, to voice profound sacred thoughts and words, and to inspire the imagination of singers and listeners alike.
