Concerts

The Basilica of Saint Mary is not only a visual delight but also an acoustical gem. As a result, many music ensembles ask to perform their sacred music in The Basilica.

On average we host some thirty concerts during the course of a year.  Annual favorites include the National Lutheran Choir, Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra, The Rose Ensemble and the Minnesota Sinfonia.  Some years include The Singers, Vocalessence and visiting groups like the Tallis Scholars and Vienna Boys Choir.

Additions this past year included a series of concerts celebrating the 65th anniversary of the Basilica's organ.  And the Oratorio Society presented "Voices of Light"  a stunning evening of music and film, merging Carl Dreyer’s legendary 1928 silent film masterpiece "The Passion of Joan of Arc, with the live performance of a moving and powerful orchestral/choral score by award-winning American composer Richard Einhorn.
