Greatest Need Opportunities
Our current opportunites of greatest need include:
AIM: Access and Inclusion Ministry
The Basilica’s Access and Inclusion/Disability Awareness Ministry is looking for people interested in helping with our annual Resource Fair this Spring. If you would like to contact organizations, help with programming on the day including set up and clean up, please contact Janet at 612.317.3508
Hennepin Connections Mentoring
Mentors students at Minneapolis Community & Technical College who have experienced homelessness or poverty, to provide support and encouragement to reach personal, academic, and career goals. Training provided in June/July for mentors to start in the Fall school year.
Immigrant Support Ministry
Circle of Welcome Teams are groups of four mentors working directly with each refugee or asylee family to help them adjust to and learn to navigate life in their new community.
We especially need Acolytes (altar servers) at 7:30am and 11:30am Sunday Masses or Ministers of Hospitality (ushers) at all Masses.
Volunteers are needed to livestream our Sunday and Weekday Masses.
The Basilica’s Pathways faith-based life-skills classes needs volunteers to lead discussions on pre-set topics such as health/wellness, budgeting, change, and healthy relationships. All materials are provided and presentations are already created (but if you’d like to make your own, that’s great, too). Food Ministers are also needed to order and pick up food for 12; all costs reimbursed by Basilica. Set your own schedule for your availability – help once each month or once each quarter. Contact Julia at 612-317-3413 or at firstname.lastname@example.org to learn more.
Prisioners or Patients Task Force
Mentor program for those leaving prison with mental health concerns.
Sponsor an adult who is inquiring about becoming Catholic through RCIA. Sponsors walk on the journey with the inquirer by attending Mass or volunteering with a candidate, praying for the candidate, and meeting on a regular basis throughout the year for coffee and conversation. (Note: our process has changed. Sponsors are no longer required to attend weekly in-person sessions with the candidate).
Rectory Receptionist or Rectory Hospitality
The first point of contact for those visiting or calling the parish office; Shifts open are on Monday morning, Tuesday afternoon, Wednesday afternoon, or Wednesday evening.
This approach to justice emphasizes living in right relationship and resonates deeply with Gospel values and Catholic Social Teaching. If you would like to learn more or to be part of a team actively engaged in facilitating this engagement and growth, please contact Janice at 612.317.3477.
